Hidden Valley Lake is a man-made reservoir, which covers 102 surface acres. The earth fill dam was built across Coyote Creek in 1969. It is 90 feet high, and its spillway spans 410 feet. The Lake holds 3,500 acre-feet of water with an average depth of 35 feet. The spillway releases water throughout most winters usually from December through April.

The Lake is used for fishing, swimming, sailing and low or no-powered boating. Boats used on the Lake must have a current HVLA boat sticker, which is available in the Main Office at no cost. The maximum allowable motor on the Lake is 7.5 horsepower, except for pontoon, canopy, or party barges, which may have a 9.9 horsepower motor. The maximum speed for powered watercraft is 10 m.p.h. Any watercraft used on the lake must not be operated in a reckless manner or at a speed that imperils the health and safety of other Lake users. The maximum speed for all shoreline areas (within 100 feet of the shoreline) and all buoyed swimming areas is 5 m.p.h. (no wake speed).

Fishing is permitted, but possession of a valid California fishing license is required for persons 16 years of age or older. Fish include largemouth bass, sunfish, and catfish. Live minnow bait is not permitted.

Hidden Valley Lake and its facilities are limited to use by members and their accompanied guests. However, members do not have to be present if the guest has a Two-Week Guest Pass. I.D.'s are required and checked by HVLA Security.

Marina
The Marina is located on North Shore Drive between Marine View and Granite. Its facilities include two separate 20-slip boat docks. Slips are available for an annual rental fee of $500. The Marina also has a new concrete boat launch ramp, on-site parking area, restroom building, turfed view park, and telephone. It is open from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after dusk daily. Arrangements can be made with the Security and Safety Department for after-hours use.

Contact the Main Office at (707) 987-3138 regarding guest passes, availability of boat slips, and no-cost boat stickers.

Big Beach Park
Big Beach Park is located on Lake Ridge Circle, across the street from the HVL Country Club. About half of this three-acre site is improved with two connected parking lots, restrooms, a large sandy beach with roped off deep and shallow swimming areas, children's swing set, a sand volleyball court, access walkway, turfed picnic and play area with picnic tables, and a fishing dock. Big Beach also has a hiking trail and an area suitable for day use boat tie-ups.  No lifeguards are present at this facility; therefore, swimming is at your own risk.

Little Beach Park
Little Beach Park is located on North Shore Drive, just north of Brookfield. The park has a large, flat sandy beach, and a relatively shallow roped off swimming area. No lifeguards are present at this facility; therefore, swimming is at your own risk. It also features new restrooms, an outside shower for getting rid of that sandy feel, a turfed picnic area with barbecues and ample shade, a beach picnic area, and children's tot play area. There is a large on-site paved parking lot.

North Shore Park
The North Shore Park is also on North Shore Drive. It is a one-acre park located about 200 yards north of Little Beach. It is currently unimproved other than a trail from the roadway area. Work is continuing to improve the trail access to the lake. Only very limited off-street parking is available. The park provides a broad lake frontage that offers good spots for taking your dog for a swim, shoreline fishing, or quiet observation of the lake and its surrounding beauty.

Fishing Pond

The Fishing Pond is located beneath the dam, along Hidden Valley Road. The Pond is fed by the spillway and seep-drainage from the Lake, which carries water runoff into Coyote Creek.

Fishing is permitted along both shorelines, but not from the spillway structure. Ample parking is available nearby. However, no restrooms are available.
